Position Summary:
The Head of Engineering is responsible for addressing all technical issues within the development business in Japan. This role ensures that technical activities are conducted safely and align with approved objectives, budgets, and timelines. Responsibilities also include managing the engineering team, strategic planning, reporting, resource allocation, and engagement with both key industry and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the engineering capabilities in Japan, ensuring projects progress according to plan and meet health, safety, environmental, budgetary, timeline, and quality targets.
- Build and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders (such as government bodies, utilities, certification bodies, turbine OEMs, EPC contractors, consultants, and advisors).
- Ensure close collaboration between the Engineering and Development Teams to optimize project value in terms of cost, schedule, quality, risk mitigation, and business outcomes.
- Proactively manage changes in project scope, resolve potential issues, and develop contingency plans.
- Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members and contractors, encouraging accountability and positive action toward assigned tasks.
- Conduct site visits and attend local stakeholder meetings as necessary to support local project development, construction, and operations.
- Provide technical support for the business development team, working closely with the engineering team members.
- Oversee the scope of turnkey EPC contractors alongside other group functions, ensuring projects are completed on time and comply with all technical, commercial, safety, and regulatory requirements while meeting or exceeding performance and O&M cost targets.
Skills:
- BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil) or related management field.
- Minimum of 10+ years in project execution, with at least 5+ years as an Engineering Manager or Project Engineer in wind projects.
- Strong business management and negotiation skills, with a commercial mindset and an interest in corporate strategy development and implementation.
- Proven skills in data organization, processing, and analysis, with the ability to draw conclusions and make informed recommendations.
