Job Title: EPC Project Director
Reports to: EPC Director
Start Date: January 06, 2025
Position Summary:
This position supports the EPC Director and EPC Deputy Director, focusing on managing the scope of turnkey EPC contractors and preparing/coordinating the Request for Proposal (RFP) and EPC contractor selection process in collaboration with the Project Manager and Contract Coordinator. The role ensures projects are completed on time, in compliance with technical, commercial, safety, and regulatory standards, while meeting or exceeding performance and O&M cost targets. The EPC Project Director provides leadership as the overall construction team lead.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the scope of turnkey EPC contractors, ensuring all projects meet technical, commercial, safety, and regulatory requirements, while achieving performance and O&M cost targets.
- Lead the procurement and contractor selection process to ensure key project requirements are incorporated.
- Collaborate with financial and legal teams to develop bankable global contracts.
- Oversee project execution to ensure precise system installation, avoiding technical errors that could impact performance or lifespan.
- Direct and manage project managers throughout all project phases.
- Set and manage project expectations with team members and stakeholders.
- Identify and resolve project-related issues and conflicts.
- Proactively manage scope changes, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
- Monitor project documentation to ensure timely submissions.
- Define project success criteria and communicate them to all involved parties.
- Coach, mentor, and supervise project team members and contractors, fostering accountability.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Provide technical support to the business development team alongside engineering and construction teams.
- Guide electrical and civil engineering managers and system engineers to support development and project construction teams.
Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate should possess strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to analyze complex requirements and present solutions effectively.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil) required.
- Experience: Minimum 15+ years in project execution and 10+ years as a Project Manager.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
- Language Skills: Fluency in Japanese and English with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Local Expertise: Strong ability to communicate with local residents and authorities.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of PV system design, including usage of basic components, installation, and interconnection methods.
- Familiarity with Grid Connected Power Storage Systems is preferred.
- Solid technical aptitude with a background in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent leadership and interpersonal abilities, with the capability to explain complex technical topics.
- Work Style: Proven ability to excel in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments while handling multiple roles and functions simultaneously.
