About the Role
We are working with a leading global developer which has been operating in Japan and are seeking a Business / Project Developer to join their team of experts.
Responsibilities
Obtain and maintain necessary permits for PV Solar and BESS projects in Japan
Develop and maintain relationships with local stakeholders, including project owners,
prefecture/city offices, utility companies, and local associations
Identify new business opportunities to develop PV Solar and BESS projects
Negotiate project contracts and permits, ensuring efficient solutions
Support project construction phase, including permitting, landowner communications,
and utility matters
Assist with project finance arrangements and sell-down of projects
Contribute to planning and execution of ESG policies and sustainable solutions for local
communities
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Japan's national and local regulations
Guide the Site & Permitting Team and provide leadership and communication
Maintain regular contact with local authorities and stakeholders
Identify, communicate, and secure meetings with high-level decision makers to cultivate
new client relationships
Perform contract negotiations with decision makers
Report accurately on pipeline activity and timing to HQ
Articulate deal rationale and expected financial outcomes to internal management team
and stakeholders
Incorporate business strategy into key activities and prioritize accordingly
Requirements
Strong understanding of the renewables industry, energy, and environmental issues in Japan
Ability to manage entire project development process with various stakeholders and suppliers
Technical understanding of solar energy markets
Understanding of commercial activities, including funding arrangements and legal
requirements
Varied experience in private and public sectors, showing adaptability and ability to learn
quickly
Ability to analyze technical details, economic, and financial models (desirable)
Native Japanese speaker with business-level English skills (spoken and written)
Knowledge of the PV and BESS sector, regulations, policies, etc.
Previous experience in a Power/ Renewable Energies/ PV company is desirable
Previous experience communicating with local authorities and government offices
