About the Role:

Our client is a leading IPP in the Renewable Energy industry, seeking a talented individual to join their team as a Manager of Transmission Engineering. This position can be located on a hybrid schedule out of Chicago, Illinois or remotely depending on background and travel commitment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform power flow assessments to support development initiatives.
  • Evaluate transmission system analyses, identify interconnection agencies and procedures, and prepare and submit interconnection requests.
  • Assist internal and external stakeholders with technical documentation and provide feedback on feasibility to facilitate financial and project approvals.
  • Review and assess utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, and Interconnection Service Agreements. Manage a portfolio of utility interconnection applications from submission to completion.
  • Develop single-line diagrams for distribution-level and transmission-level interconnection applications and electrical permits.
  • Analyze interconnection due diligence materials to support project acquisitions, identifying potential issues.
  • Review utility impact studies and upgrade estimates to propose cost and time-saving strategies.
  • Supervise external consultants conducting interconnection and transmission studies, as well as curtailment and congestion analyses.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on utility requirements and medium-voltage design.
  • Lead utility status calls, maintain relationships with utilities, and ensure compliance with tariff deadlines.
  • Direct technical utility negotiations and oversee the implementation of non-wires alternatives, selective curtailment, and grid-edge technologies.
  • Provide congestion and constraint analyses.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in Transmission Planning and Power Flow Analysis
  • Knowledge of System Impact Studies (SIS) and other interconnection studies of battery storage facilities with the ISO/RTO markets and ISO interconnection processes
  • Proficient in PSS/E, PSLF, TARA and Power World
  • Knowledge of transmission expansion plans in the US
  • Experience with substation design
  • Formerly worked for an IPP or Developer
